NEON BRICK BREAKER

How to Play Brick Breaker: A Complete Guide

Brick breaker is one of the oldest arcade ideas there is: a paddle, a ball and a wall of bricks. It takes seconds to learn and years to master. This guide covers everything you need for your first session in Neon Brick Breaker.

The goal

Every level is a formation of glowing bricks. Bounce the ball off your paddle and into the bricks until every breakable one is gone. Silver, hatched bricks are unbreakable steel — they never count towards the goal, so you can ignore them except as walls to bank shots off.

Moving and launching

On a computer the paddle follows your mouse, or you can hold ← → (or A and D). On a phone or tablet, drag anywhere on the board — the paddle moves with your finger without hiding under it.

At the start of each life the ball rests on the paddle. Click, tap, or press Space when you are ready. Nothing moves against you until you launch, so take a moment to line up.

Lives

You start every level with three lives. A life is lost when the last ball in play falls past the paddle. Losing all three ends the run; you can retry the level immediately, and levels you have already unlocked stay unlocked.

The bricks you will meet

One-hit bricks break immediately. Reinforced bricks have a double outline and white pips — one pip per hit remaining. Orange bricks with a star inside are explosive: they damage everything touching them, and chains are common. Bricks with a cyan halo carry a shield that absorbs the first hit. A bright diamond in the middle means a power-up is inside. Bricks with small arrows slide back and forth on a fixed track. Every 25th level is a boss.

Clearing a level

When the last breakable brick falls, you get a bonus of 250 points per life left plus a time bonus, then a one-to-three star rating. The next level unlocks automatically.
