Aiming with the paddle

The ball's new direction depends on where it meets the paddle. The centre sends it straight up. Moving out towards an edge tilts it steadily, up to 65° from vertical at the tip. A moving paddle adds a small push of up to about 7°. The ball can never fly perfectly flat: it always keeps at least 14° of climb. If it bounces 24 times without hitting anything breakable, it gets a small nudge so it can never loop forever.

The ball also speeds up slightly with each paddle hit, up to 12% over the level's base speed, and drops back a little when you lose a life.

Bricks

  • Normal — Breaks in one hit.
  • Reinforced — Two or three hits; white pips show hits left (from level 21, three-hit from 121).
  • Explosive — Damages all eight neighbours when it breaks — chain reactions included (from level 41).
  • Shield — A cyan halo absorbs the first hit, then the brick takes damage (from level 121).
  • Power-up — Always drops a capsule (from level 10).
  • Moving — Slides on a fixed, repeating track (from level 91).
  • Unbreakable — Silver steel. Reflects the ball and doesn't count towards clearing (from level 121).
  • Boss — A giant multi-hit target every 25 levels, with its own health bar and attack pattern.

Lives and losing a ball

Every level starts with three lives. When the last ball in play falls past the paddle, you lose a life and the ball returns to the paddle. Active timed power-ups end and falling capsules disappear, but an unused Shield stays. At zero lives the run ends and you can retry straight away.

Scoring

  • Bricks: one-hit 10, power-up 15, explosive 15, reinforced 20, shield 25; moving bricks +10. A hit that doesn't break a reinforced brick: 5.
  • Combo: each brick broken before the ball returns to the paddle adds 10% to brick points, up to ×2.
  • Bosses: 25 per hit; defeat bonus 1,000 + 200 per boss tier reached.
  • Capsule caught: 50. Boss spark caught: −50.
  • Clear bonus: 250 per life left + 5 per second under the level's par time, and +500 for an optional time challenge.

Stars

  • ★ Clear the level.
  • ★★ Clear it with at least two lives left.
  • ★★★ Clear it without losing a life and reach the level's 3-star score, shown on the board before you launch.

The 3-star score is calculated from the level's bricks, so it is the same every time you play that level.

Bosses

Every 25th level is a boss with a health bar at the top of the board. Before each attack the boss glows red for almost a second, then drops a slow spark straight down. A spark never costs a life: catching one shrinks your paddle for four seconds. The five boss types are explained in how to beat difficult levels.
